THE SEXUAL REVOLUTION IN SUMMARY
In the preceding account covering about thirty years of political and social change, we have selected only those events that are generally considered to be of greatest importance in the sexual revolution. Certainly there were additional influences that were related to the sexual revolution. Some of these were more cause than effect, some were more effect than cause; but each in its own way impacted on our changing sexual morality. Such a list would include at least the following: President Kennedy, beatniks and hippies, Bob Dylan, the generation gap, the anti-Vietnam movement, Woodstock, the black movement, civil rights, Marilyn Monroe, the ecology movement, "pot" goes middle class, and blue jeans become the national costume. All of these represented forces of change in our society and as such were part of and further facilitated the sexual revolution. Considered separately, all of these various factors were limited in scope, each one affecting some one segment of our society or group of individuals more than another. In terms of their total impact, however, they made an indelible impression, creating changes that will make it difficult, at least in our time and perhaps for a long time to come, to return to the Victorianism or the Puritanism of the past.
