What do you understand by virginity?
Virgin is that girl who had no intercourse so far. Question of virginity appears in cases of nullity of marriage, divorce, defamation and rape.
What will be the appearance of genitals in virgin?
The labia majora are thick, firm, elastic and rounded. They remain in contact with each other to cover the vulva. Posterior commissure and the fourchette are intact and crescent shaped. They are rarely destroyed by sexual act in adults but may be lacerated in case of children.
What about rugosity of vagina in virgins?
The vagina is narrow and tight with rugose walls but the rugosity of the vagina cannot be considered a diagnostic proof of virginity because rugosity is disturbed only after delivery and not just after a few intercourses.
What is hymen?
It is a thin or firm fold of mucous membrane stretched at the orifice of vagina. It is generally annular with a central opening which may be rounded or elongated. Hymen is sometimes divided by a bridge of tissues into two equal or unequal openings and is known as septate hymen. It may have multiple openings.
Is intact hymen a surity of virginity?
Normally the hymen is ruptured by the first act of coitus. But if it is loose, folded and elastic it may persist even after frequent acts of coitus. Cases have been recorded in which the hymen had to be incised at the time of delivery while even prostitutes may have intact hymen.

Besides the act of coitus can hymen be ruptured?
Yes, It may be ruptured during accident, cycling, fall astride on a projecting substance, fence or while playing see-saw, during masturbation with hard structures, instrumentation during operation and insertion of sanitary tampoons.

What are true and false virgins?

If a woman is with intact hymen the edges are distinct and regular with an orifice of small dimensions allowing terminal phalanx of a finger only, the presumptions are in favour of non penetrations of the penis into vagina.
If a woman who has an intact hymen which permits 2 fingers easily
and hymen is relaxed one can conclude that woman can be virgin
or may not be i.e. false virgin.

What are the signs of virginity?

If labia majora are separated, the forchette are torn, the vagina is roomy and enlarged there is little probability that even with intact hymen we are dealing with true virgin and intercourse if not habitual at least repeated is possible.
